Mauritius: Over 3000 people killed by Cardiovascular diseases each year

On the occasion of World Heart Day, which will be celebrated this Sunday, September 29th, the Mauritian Minister of health raised awareness of the health conditions of the population.

“22% of the population is diabetic and 20% is prediabetic,” highlighted the Minister of Health, while emphasizing that almost half of the Mauritian population is affected by diabetes and its complications that can lead to amputations.

He also encouraged citizens to fight against cardiovascular diseases by practicing physical exercises.

Cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in the world, kill more than 3000 Mauritians each year, an alarming county level for a small island with approximately 1.2 million people.
