The Swiss alpinist Dani Arnold established a new free solo record time in September 2019 on the north face of the Cima Grande, the highest peak of Tre Cime di Lavaredo, in the Dolomites, Italy.
The 35 years old alpinist climbed the 550-metre-long steep of the Comici-Dimai in just 46 minutes and 30 seconds, beating the old record by nearly 20 minutes.
He now holds the speed record on four of Europe’s six major north faces.
“I didn’t have the slightest idea I was that quick. I felt relatively relaxed and everything went smoothly, perfectly I’d say even. It was a great day in the mountains,” he expressed.
As a reminder, free solo climbing is the most challenging form of climbing, tackling sheer mountain faces without the use of rope or other protective equipment.
