Pakistan dengue outbreak: Over 50,000 cases reported so far


Dengue outbreak continues to spread across Pakistan. Since the beginning of this year, over 50,000 cases of the mosquito-borne disease have been recorded according to the health authorities.

The cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are the most affected by the dengue outbreak with at least 25,000 people tested positive for the dengue virus.

Dengue fever has also claimed the lives of 250 people in different parts of the country over the past few weeks.

Nearly half of the world population live areas at risk of the virus including Latin America, Africa and Asia. Southeast Asia faced a major outbreak this year, infecting hundreds of thousands and killing hundreds.

As a reminder, the government decided to seek help from international experts to investigate the causes of fast spreading of the deadly epidemic which is menacing the country.
