The Haliade-X turbines will be built in early 2020 on Dogger Bank Wind Farms, an artificial island in off Yorkshire coast in the North Sea and it should generate its first electricity by 2023.
Dogger Bank will be the largest wind farm in the world with a combined capacity of 3.6GW. With blades of more than 100 meters long, a single turbine is expected to power 16,000 European households.
Wisely developed by the GE Renewable Energy, Haliade-X turbines, specifically designed for offshore wind production, will generate more energy while lowering the cost of production. It will be powering electricity to UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Belgium.
“Dogger Bank will now be home to the largest offshore wind turbines in the world and this pioneering low carbon technology which will play a central role in helping the UK become carbon neutral by 2050,” elaborates the co-developer SSE Renewables, Paul Cooley.
The futuristic wind farm will be generating enough renewable electricity to power 4.5 million Britain houses, an equivalent of 5 % of the UK’s total power supply.
