Ludhiana, February 13
The 1976 pass-out batch of B.Sc Agriculture ( Hons) celebrated the Golden Jubilee of their graduation at the recently organised 61st Alumni Meet of the College of Agriculture (COA), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). About 75 classmates of this batch including those from abroad- Canada, Nepal, Australia, USA and England, visited PAU for get-together. The emotions of the classmates on meeting each other; Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal; and Dean of CoA Dr CS Aulakh cannot be described in words.
The group marched to the venue in matching dress, holding banners of golden jubilee. This year’s alumni meet was also a host to the two other pass-out batches-1966 (Diamond) and 1986 ( Ruby) – both the batches also participated in the celebrations. A souvenir prepared by the 1976 batch, carrying messages from Dr SS Johl, Dr KS Aulakh, Dr SS Gosal, Dr CS Aulakh, Dr Nirmal Jaura and Dr TS Riar, was released on the occasion. These dignitaries were also honoured on the occasion by presenting mementos.
To commemorate the occasion, a pass-out of 1976 batch Dr DS Cheema, former, Dean College of Agriculture and now Member, Board of Management, contributed an article entitled “Golden Jubilee of Graduation, Remembering Our Roots at CoA, Ludhiana” to the AGALUMNUS which was also released on the occasion. The batch also remembered their departed classmates and the families of some them were honoured on this occasion. Post- lunch, the batchmates were flooded with emotional scenes when they visited the Moonlight Hostel- Hostel No 6.
Dr Gosal, PAU VC; Dr Jaura, present Director Students’ Welfare; Dr RK Dhaliwal, former DSW and wife of batch-mate Dr Harjit Dhaliwal, and other officials of the Directorate of DSW and Hostel were all present to facilitate the visit. They visited the common room and the hostel mess. The students hosted the group for tea and snacks. One of the batch mate Ishwar Pahuja, as a token of appreciation and gratitude, presented a sum of money to the Mess Committee/students.
It was followed by the Entertainment Program, organised by the Dean, College of Agriculture at the Alumni Meet venue. Later in the evening, the group organised a dinner and entertainment programme at a city hotel. There was active participation by the ladies of the batchmates. The next day, they visited the beautiful and picturesque flower seed production Beauscape Farm of their – classmate Avtar Singh Dhindsa at village Langrian. He narrated the background and his journey after post graduation, leading to his passion of growing flowers for seed.
