Majitha, December 10
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s decision to send Patiala SSP Varun Sharma on leave proved that the viral conference call of the SSP directing district police officials to stop opposition candidates from reaching the offices of Returning Officers to file their nominations for the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad polls was genuine.
Addressing a large public gathering at Kathunangal along with party legislator Ganieve Kaur Majithia during the course of which he exhorted people to ensure resounding victories for the SAD in the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad seats, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said “a free and fair probe will indict the SSP and prove that Varun Sharma had taken the law into his own hands”. He said the SAD on its part would continue to seek legal recourse to ensure a criminal case was registered against the SSP and he was jailed for his unconstitutional acts.
Urging the people to support the Majithia family at a time when former minister Bikram Singh Majithja had been jailed in a false case, Badal said “Bikram used to fight for you. He ensured unprecedented development in this constituency. The only reason false cases were filed against him was because he used to raise the voice of the people. Just as the Badal family was acquitted in the disproportionate assets case filed against them, Majithia will also be acquitted in a similar manner”.
Badal also urged the people to ensure SAD victories in all four Zila Parishad as well as majority of Block Samiti seats”. He also made a clarion announcement on the occasion that Talbir Singh Gill, who had backstabbed the SAD and joined Aam Aadmi Party, would never be admitted into the SAD. “Such persons have defamed the SAD and enriched themselves at the cost of the people”. He also requested police officers, including Majitha DSP Dharminder Kalyan, not to act in a partisan manner in the polls, asserting if they did so they should be ready for action against them as per law.
Badal also spoke on how during the last sixty years there had been four Congress chief ministers including Giani Zail Singh, Darbara Singh, Beant Singh and Capt Amarinder Singh. “I challenge the Congress party to tell me one thing they did for the State or one major facility they gave to the farmers or the poor”. Asserting that the same was the case with Bhagwant Mann, the SAD president said in sharp contrast, Parkash Singh Badal during his 22 years in power had established thermal plants, Universities, cancer institute’s and world class memorials besides giving free power to farmers and introducing novel social welfare initiatives like old age pension, Shagun and Aata Dal scheme. “I want to ask you, of everything has been made by the SAD then why are we indulging in experiments. Let us save Punjab by reaffirming faith in the SAD”.
