Chandigarh, February 27
Rao Narender Singh, President of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, has strongly condemned the arrest of workers of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) who were peacefully registering their dissent against government policies in Delhi during the India AI Impact Summit. He termed the action a direct assault on democratic values and constitutional rights.
Singh stated that the Youth Congress workers were raising important issues related to farmers, youth, and national interest in a completely constitutional and peaceful manner. He alleged that the ruling government at the Centre is misusing the police force to suppress voices of dissent, which goes against the fundamental spirit of democracy.
In strong words, he said, “India is the world’s largest democracy, not a dictatorship. The right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression, as guaranteed by the Constitution, belongs to every citizen. Through these arrests, the government is not only attempting to silence the voices of youth but is also attacking the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution. Such steps will further increase public dissatisfaction with the government.”
Singh appealed to Congress workers to remain united and continue their struggle to safeguard democratic values and issues of public interest. He made it clear that the Indian National Congress will never step back in the face of injustice and repression.
Calling the government’s action completely unconstitutional and undemocratic, he said, “No matter how hard the government tries, Congress workers will neither be intimidated nor bow down. We will continue our struggle against authoritarian attitudes and keep raising the voice of the people.” He further demanded the immediate release of the arrested youth workers.
Singh added that the incident has become a subject of widespread discussion in political circles and has good, Devender Yadav, Qazi Nizamuddin (National Secretary and Delhi Co-incharge), Vinod Jakhar, Pearl Chaudhary, Avinash Yadav, Nishit Kataria, Sitaram Lamba, Deepak Chotiwala, Krishna Rao, Vardhan Yadav, Savita Kundu, Pooja Sharma and other office bearers were present.
