Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, whose iconic and versatile voice defined Indian music for over eight decades, has passed away at the age of 92, closing an extraordinary chapter in Hindi cinema.

Confirming her demise, son Anand Bhosle told reporters outside Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai—where she had been admitted on Saturday evening with exhaustion and a chest infection that Bhosle passed away today. Those who wish to pay their last respects can visit her residence tomorrow at 11 am. The last rites will be performed at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.

Bhosle’s passing has plunged the Indian entertainment industry into mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the nation. Over a career spanning seven decades, Asha Bhosle recorded more than 12,000 songs in multiple Indian and foreign languages. Honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Vibhushan and several National Film Awards, she leaves behind a legacy unmatched in its breadth and brilliance.

The younger sister of India’s ‘Nightingale’ Lata Mangeshkar, Asha was celebrated for her versatility—effortlessly moving from classical ragas to ghazals, cabaret and pop. Her timeless hits include Dum Maaro Dum, Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Chura Liya Hai Tumne, and Abhi Na Jao, songs that continue to resonate across generations.
