Chandigarh, November 25

The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday hit out at the Panjab University administration, lambasting its flagrant disregard for the urgent and legitimate demands of protesting students. He accused the university of brazenly stonewalling calls to announce the long-overdue Senate election schedule, fueling anger and unrest across campus.

“The students’ protest has now raged for 25 relentless days, and they are poised to unleash a massive, unprecedented shutdown on November 26, taking a decisive stand against the university’s cold indifference. Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu had earlier assured that the Senate election dates would be announced imminently, yet the administration’s deafening silence betrays a shocking insensitivity and utter contempt for student voices,” Bajwa thundered.

Bajwa further accused the PU administration of functioning as an extension of the Bharatiya Janata Party–led Union government, claiming it is pursuing a systematic and calculated agenda to undermine Punjab’s rights. He also pointed to what he described as the BJP’s ongoing attempts to weaken Punjab’s constitutional and administrative rights since coming to power at the Centre. Bajwa reaffirmed that the Punjab Congress has already extended full support to the protesting students in their demand for the immediate announcement of the Senate elections.
