Listen to this article

Chandigarh, March 27
In a shocking revelation, Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warrgin today said that two Punjab MPs Ravneet Singh Bittu and Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal were stalling the release of the ‘Bandhi Singhs’ (Sikh detainees) by repeatedly meeting the union Home Minister Amit Shah and opposing their release.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha today, Warring demanded that all the ‘Bandhi Singhs’ who have completed their jail sentences must be released according to the law of the country. He said, not only the ‘Bandhi Singhs’ but all those people who have completed their sentences but are still languishing in different jails of the country must be immediately released.

Warring said, while the country’s constitution and the law mandate strict punishment for any crime, at the same time, the same constitution and the law also make it clear that all those who have completed their sentences should be released from jail.

Later in an informal conversation with the reporters outside the parliament, Warring disclosed that he had credible information that Bittu and Ms Badal were regularly meeting the union Home Minister and opposing the release.

Warring noted, the two MPs, representing two different parties, the BJP and the Akali Dal, apparently wanted to keep the issue alive to exploit it during the elections. He pointed out, their public posturing on the issue is completely different from what they are seeking privately.
