Jalandhar, February 6
Jaiveer Shergill, National Spokesperson, BJP today said that another day, another murder — an AAP leader has been shot dead outside a Gurudwara in Jalandhar, Punjab, exposing once again the total collapse of law and order under the AAP Government.
“Murders and extortion have now become casual business in Punjab. Under the AAP Government, law and order has been reduced to a soft toy in the hands of criminals and gangsters. Instead of doing development, AAP has turned Punjab into a playground for gangsters.” Shergill said. He added that singers, businessmen, politicians, salaried class, kabaddi players — every section of society has become a sitting duck for organised crime.
“Instead of being used as a professional law-enforcement force, the Punjab Police is increasingly being converted into the personal ‘muscle-men army’ of the AAP leadership”, Shergill said, while adding, “The police machinery is busy muzzling the voice of the media, slap false and fabricated cases on political opponents, intimidate critics and provide a security shield to Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders, while ordinary Punjabis are left at the mercy of gangsters.”
Shergill pointed out that crime has increased sharply since AAP came to power, arguing that the government has fostered an environment of political patronage, weakened policing, selective enforcement and a complete lack of accountability.
“Gangsters and criminals have got a booster dose of confidence because they see a confused, directionless and politically compromised administration. When criminals are not punished swiftly, when police officers are demoralised and when political masters interfere in investigations, crime automatically flourishes,” Shergill said.
BJP National Spokesperson further stated that AAP’s hollow slogans of ‘Badlaav’ have in reality delivered only fear, chaos and lawlessness to Punjab. “AAP has left no stone unturned to push Punjab into a dark era once again. Punjab today is witnessing ‘Gangster Raj’, not ‘LokRaj’. Now it is high time that President’s Rule should be imposed in Punjab to save the state from total collapse,” Shergill asserted.
