Chandigarh, March 9
Congress leader and former Halqa Incharge of Bholath constituency Saurav Khullar formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma. Welcoming Khullar into the party fold, Sharma said that his induction would further strengthen the BJP’s organisational structure in the Doaba region, particularly in Kapurthala district.
Khullar has had a long and active political journey within student and youth politics. He began his political career in 2008 when he was elected NSUI President at Lovely Professional University, serving until 2011. Later, he was elected NSUI District President, Kapurthala in 2011 and was re-elected to the same post for another term from 2013 to 2015. Continuing his rise in youth politics, Khullar served as Assembly President, Phagwara, Punjab Youth Congress from 2015 to 2019.
From 2019 to 2023, he held the position of District President, Kapurthala, Punjab Youth Congress, which he achieved by defeating the son of a two-time Cabinet Minister and former MLA Joginder Singh Mann in organisational elections, demonstrating his grassroots support and leadership capabilities. He later served as Halqa Incharge of Bholath constituency from 2020 to 2022, further expanding his political influence in the region.
On joining the BJP, Khullar expressed confidence in the leadership and vision of the party and said he would work dedicatedly to strengthen the BJP in Punjab and serve the people of the state. Punjab BJP leaders present on the occasion welcomed him into the party and expressed hope that his experience and organisational skills would contribute significantly to the party’s growth in the region.
