Mahendergarh/Chandigarh, February 18
The Haryana Congress State President, Rao Narender Singh, launched a sharp attack on the state government over the prevailing law and order situation. Addressing a press conference at the Mahendragarh District Congress Office, he stated that law and order in Haryana has completely collapsed and criminal elements are emboldened. Incidents such as broad daylight murders, robberies, and dacoities are occurring openly, forcing ordinary citizens to live in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
Singh alleged that the government has failed to establish effective control over crime. Instead, opposition legislators are being unnecessarily harassed with the intention of suppressing dissenting voices. Referring to the FIR registered against Congress MLA Davinder Hans, he said the action appears to be politically motivated. He added that the government seems more focused on targeting the opposition than restoring law and order in the state.
The State President made it clear that the Congress party will not tolerate any injustice against its legislators and strongly condemns such actions. He warned that the party will fight at every level to protect democratic values.
Expressing concern over changes being made to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Singh said the government is curtailing the rights of eligible beneficiaries, thereby affecting their livelihoods. The Congress party will gherao the Assembly in protest against these anti-people decisions to compel the government to listen to the voice of the people.
Singh stated that the Congress party’s struggle against corrupt and repressive policies will continue unabated, and the party will take every possible step to safeguard the rights of the people.
