DMC&H Receives District Award on Republic Day for “Save the Planet” Initiative

On the occasion of Republic Day, DMC&H, Ludhiana, was conferred with the District Award under the “Save the Planet” initiative in recognition of its outstanding contribution towards environmental conservation through large-sc`ale tree plantation drives. The award was conferred upon Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr. Ashima Taneja, Additional Medical Superintendent; Dr. Monika Singla, Professor of Neurology; and Dr. Sonia Singh, Associate Professor, IHBT, for their dedicated efforts in promoting a greener and healthier environment. The award was presented by Sh. Harbhajan Singh, Cabinet Minister, Government of Punjab, along with Ms. Inderjit Kaur, First Woman Mayor of Ludhiana, and other senior officials of the district administration.

DMC&H has achieved significant milestones in environmental sustainability and has been recognized in the International Book of Records for becoming the first hospital to plant 1,22,000 trees within a remarkable span of just 107 days. Taking its green mission forward, the institution has already planted over 2,22,000 trees to date.

Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, stated that we strongly believe that a green revolution towards bettering our city and improving health begins at home. This collective effort by our doctors, staff, and students reflects our shared responsibility towards the environment. Our vision is to plant 10 lakh saplings by the middle of this year and contribute meaningfully to a healthier and greener future.

Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, emphasized that the recognition highlights the institution’s steadfast commitment to environmental protection and underscores the importance of tree plantation in ensuring long-term ecological and public health benefits. The plantation drive saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members, healthcare professionals, staff, and students. The initiative was launched on 5 June 2025, coinciding with World Environment Day, with a pledge to plant 10,000 trees over a one-month period.
