Chandigarh, February 22
Soon after receiving notice about the dilapidated condition of the Government Primary School building in Basti Hajoor, Fazilka, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered the reconstruction of the school building. Acting promptly, the minister directed the School Education Department to take necessary steps and assured that the new building will be completed within six months, under his personal supervision.
Referring to the matter, Bains said that the poor condition of the government school in Basti Hajoor was brought to his attention yesterday. He stated that he has already instructed officials to take immediate action and will personally visit the school to inspect its condition. He emphasized that within the next six months, the school will have a new building, and this is not a political statement but his personal guarantee.
Speaking about broader improvements in school infrastructure across the state, the minister said that Punjab has nearly 20,000 government schools, most of which were inherited in a dilapidated state due to decades of negligence by previous governments.
Bains added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has transformed hundreds of such schools in recent years, and this work is continuing with full vigor. He affirmed that the government is on a mission to revamp all 20,000 schools in the state, moving forward with complete commitment and transparency.
Reiterating his dedication to education reforms, Bains said that this is not just about making big claims, but about accountability and continuous action. For him, education is not politics—it is his passion and responsibility.
