Chandigarh, November 13

Farmers’ organisations and All-India Trade Unions have agreed to join the power employees’ organisations against the privatisation of the power and Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025. A joint meeting has been called in Delhi on December 14 to finalise the strategy for the joint struggle.

Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) Shailendra Dubey stated that farmers’ organisations and All-India Trade Unions have agreed that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 has been introduced to fully privatise the entire power sector and a nationwide movement to it is absolutely essential. In this regard, the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) has called a meeting in Delhi on December 14.

All major national office-bearers of farmers’ organisations, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and All-India Trade Unions have been invited for the joint meeting. It may be mentioned that power employees and engineers in Uttar Pradesh have been continuously fighting for almost a year against the privatisation of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam of UP.

AIPEF Media Advisor V.K.Gupta informed that meanwhile, the Government of India has released the draft of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 to privatise the entire energy sector of the country and sought comments upon it by the end of November. Additionally, as per the decision taken in the Group of Ministers meeting, states are being informed that the central government will provide financial assistance only if the states accept one of the three privatisation options.
