In a significant push towards strengthening environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices among the youth, the I J Doda Foundation successfully organised a large-scale environmental workshop titled “Shudh Hawa – Swachh Punjab” at the Punjab School Education Board Auditorium, Phase 8, Mohali.
The workshop was conducted under the Environment Compensation Funds, in coordination with the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) and supported by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Punjab.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions focusing on air pollution, its health and environmental impacts, and the critical role of waste management in improving air quality. Jonita Doda, President, I J Doda Foundation, led the initiative and addressed participants on the importance of behavioural change and individual responsibility in tackling environmental issues, and its role in climate change. The programme witnessed participation from nearly 450 attendees, including school students, teachers, and community volunteers, reflecting a strong collective commitment towards environmental responsibility and behavioural change.
The event was graced by Dr. Amar Pal Singh, Chairman, Punjab School Education Board, as the Chief Guest, who appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of environmental education in shaping responsible future citizens. Manjit Singh Sidhu, Senior Journalist, attended as the Guest of Honour and highlighted the critical role of awareness and public engagement in addressing environmental challenges.

The programme was conducted with the continued support and guidance of the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, with key contributions from Er. Pritpal Singh, Executive Director, Dr. K. S. Bath, Joint Director and Dr. Mandakini Thakur, Project Scientist. The organisers also acknowledged the support extended by Ginny Duggal, District Education Officer, in facilitating coordination and participation from schools. The sessions were further enriched by Dr. Sonia Sharma from Punjab University and Dr. Amit Goyal from NITTTR.
As part of the initiative, more than 150 plants were distributed among participants to encourage green practices at the grassroots level. A wide range of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials was also distributed by the I J Doda Foundation to reinforce awareness and promote long-term behavioural change. A collective environmental pledge was administered, where all participants committed to adopting responsible practices, and active contribution towards a cleaner environment.
Notably, under the leadership of Jonita Doda, the I J Doda Foundation continues to establish itself as a strong and credible force in environmental awareness and community engagement. Through Planet over Profit, structured programmes and institutional collaborations, the Foundation is actively contributing to building a more sustainable and environmentally conscious society.
The successful execution of the workshop highlights the importance of collaborative efforts between government institutions, educators, and civil society in addressing environmental challenges and driving meaningful change at the grassroots level.
