Patiala, December 12

All PSPCL  unions have decided to  launch a joint protest movement against the sale of power sector land and assets, against hurdles being created in the process of 2×800 MW units at  Ropar, 4 new labour codes implemented by central government  and against the provisions of the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. They  decided  with a unanimous call on the Government of Punjab to immediately withdraw these proposals

PSEB Engineers’ Association General Secretary Ajay Pal Singh Atwal said that a joint meeting of PSEB Engineers’ Association, Employees Joint Forum, Bijli Mulajam Ekta Manch, Bijli Mulajam Snagarhsheel Morcha, Council of Junior Engineers, Association of Junior Engineers, IT Officers Association, Officers Accounts Association, Powercom Pension Union, Pensioners Association, Pensioner Welfare Federation, Grid Substation Employee Union participated to deliberate upon the issues being faced by the state power sector. Dr Darshan Pal and Angrej Singh Dakaunda from Samyukt Kissan Morcha also attended the meeting

He informed that during the meeting it was stated that the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 would adversely affect public ownership, consumer interests, and the long-term stability of Punjab’s power sector. They expressed deep concern that the sale of valuable PSPCL/PSTCL land will severely compromise future expansion of critical infrastructure such as substations, transmission corridors, and power projects. They also emphasized that the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 undermines the federal structure, weakens state utilities, and threatens the affordability and reliability of electricity for the general public and agricultural sector of Punjab.

They  condemned the attempts to sabotage state sector 2×800 MW units at Ropar as  these super critical units will ensure reliable power availability to the state. It was decided that power sector union leaders will participate in the meeting being organised by Samyukt Kissan Morcha  tomorrow  at Chandigarh and also in the national level meeting called by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEE) on Sunday at New Delhi. The leadership also issued a clear warning that any attempt that harms or compromises power sector assets will result in immediate and statewide protest by all unions.
