Sirsa, March 6

The Member of Parliament from Sirsa, former Union Minister and General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Kumari Selja expressed strong displeasure during the DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting held at Panchayat Bhawan on Friday over the deteriorating sanitation system in the city and the conversion of a green belt near the civil hospital into a dumping point. Taking a stern view of the matter, Selja reprimanded officials and remarked that if garbage was to be dumped in the green belt, then a dumping site might as well be created in the park of Panchayat Bhawan itself.

Selja stressed that the purpose of a green belt is to keep the city clean and environmentally balanced, and turning it into a garbage dumping area was highly unfortunate. The MP directed officials of the municipal council to immediately remove the waste from the site and restore the area as a proper green belt. During the meeting, serious concern was also raised over garbage accumulation in several parts of the city and frequent sewer overflow issues. Selja questioned officials about repeated claims of cleanliness drives while ground realities continued to show deteriorating conditions. She directed authorities to ensure immediate improvements in sanitation and to implement a permanent solution to the sewer overflow problem.

The slow pace of ongoing railway projects in Sirsa also came under scrutiny during the meeting. Reviewing the progress of the under-construction foot overbridge, Selja noted that only about 50 per cent of the work had been completed, and merely 10 per cent progress had been made in the last three months. She asked officials how the project would be completed within the stipulated timeline and instructed them to present a clear action plan and accelerate the construction work. The meeting also discussed the impact of the Railway Under Bridge (RUB-144) project on Court Road and the resulting traffic disruption in the city. Officials were directed to complete the pending sewer line work after the completion of the drinking water pipeline so that the project could be finished without further delay.

Selja also reviewed the progress of the Chattargarhpatti railway overbridge and instructed authorities to develop alternative routes for commuters during the construction period, keeping public convenience in mind. She said that Hisar Road, Court Road and Chattargarhpatti Road are key connecting routes of the city and traffic arrangements must be properly managed.
