On the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to the ninth Guru of Sikhism. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “On the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, we bow in reverence to his unmatched courage and sacrifice. His martyrdom for the protection of faith and humanity will forever illuminate our society.” Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tributes to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. He paid obeisance in Delhi in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. He said that the courage and valour with which Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur confronted injustice and unrighteousness remains a source of inspiration for every Indian.

“For the protection of dharma (religion), Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur did not hesitate even to sacrifice his life. His life is an immortal saga of India’s spiritual consciousness, courage, and sacrifice.” Shah further said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that the entire country will observe the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Sahib with gratitude and remember his dedication towards his faith and culture.

“The life of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice, courage and martyrdom will continue to inspire us”, he asserted. Furhermore in a post on X, the Union Mone Moinister posted, “I pay my humble respects to the ninth Guru of Sikhism, “Hind di Chadar,” Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, on his 350th martyrdom day. During his lifetime, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji also performed spiritual penance, held satsangs and protected his culture and religion from tyrannical invaders. He fought for the Kashmiri Pandits, challenged the oppressive Mughals, and made the supreme sacrifice for the sake of faith. Remembering the saga of Guru Sahib Ji’s sacrifice, filled with bravery, restraint, renunciation and devotion, the “mind” is filled with pride and the resolve to protect the nation.

Meanwhile later in the day, Modi addressed an event commemorating the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur at Kurukshetra in Haryana today. Speaking on the occasion, Modi remarked that today has come as a remarkable confluence of India’s heritage. He highlighted that in the morning he was in Ayodhya, the city of the Ramayana, and now he is in Kurukshetra, the city of the Gita. He stated that all are paying homage to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur on the occasion of his 350th martyrdom day. The Prime Minister acknowledged the presence of saints and the respected congregation at the event and expressed his reverent salutations to all.

The Prime Minister remarked that the sacred land of Kurukshetra is an important center of Sikh tradition. He highlighted that almost all Gurus of the Sikh tradition visited this land during their holy journeys. He recalled that when the Ninth Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur, came to this sacred soil, he left a profound imprint of deep penance and fearless courage.

Emphasising that the government has sought to connect every pilgrimage site of the Gurus with the vision of modern India, Modi further noted that whether it was completing the work of the Kartarpur Corridor, constructing the ropeway project at Hemkund Sahib, or expanding the Virasat-e-Khalsa Museum at Anandpur Sahib, all these tasks have been undertaken with full devotion, keeping the glorious tradition of the Gurus as the guiding ideal.

Governor of Haryana Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini, Union Ministers Manohar Lal, Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishna Pal were present among other dignitaries at the event.

Prime Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Panchjanya’, constructed in honour of the sacred conch of Lord Krishna. Thereafter, he will visit the Mahabharata Anubhav Kendra, an immersive experiential centre where installations depict significant episodes from the Mahabharata, highlighting its enduring cultural and spiritual significance.

Prime Minister further participated in a special programme commemorating the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. During the programme, the Prime Minister released a special Coin and Commemorative stamp marking the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of revered Guru. To honour the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Government of India is observing a year-long commemoration.
