Patiala Foundation took another step towards sustainable urban living by launching and installing a Dry Leaf Composter (DLC) at Punjabi University (Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences) and (Department of Horticulture), Patiala. The initiative, carried out under Project PRITHVI, is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote eco-conscious practices and provide scalable solutions for managing organic waste within the city. Sponsored by Jana Small Finance Bank Ltd., the project reflects the growing need for shared responsibility in building eco-friendly communities and addressing the challenges of biodegradable urban waste disposal in one of the most effective ways.
Patiala Foundation expressed heartfelt gratitude to Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, a well-known environmental and eco-enthusiast who has consistently advocated for sustainable solutions. His faith in the concept and long-term sustainability of the Dry Leaf Composter has been instrumental in encouraging such green initiatives across educational institutions.
Adding significance to the event was the support Dr. Himender Bharti, Head of the Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences, Punjabi University for coordinating the installation of the DLC, along with Dr. Meenakshi Bharti, Rajinder Pratap Singh, students, and gardeners enthusiastically supported the initiative and pledged to maintain the composter. The college community appreciated the Foundation’s vision of introducing such sustainable, community-friendly measures that directly contribute to greener, cleaner, and healthier neighborhoods.
Addressing the gathering, Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, CEO of Patiala Foundation, emphasized the pressing need to adopt sustainable practices in daily life. He shared that simple interventions like composting can significantly reduce air pollution, minimize landfill burden, restore soil health, and inspire community-driven environmental responsibility.
