Chandigarh, March 25
Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organised a Mental Health Awareness Session under the Special Counselling Cell (SCC) to promote emotional well-being and effective coping strategies among students. The session was conducted under the guidance of Dean Student Affairs (DSA) Dr. D. R. Prajapati. Further it was graced by Komila Parthi, Prof. Shobhna Dhiman (Registrar, PEC), Dr. Sulata Bhandari (Head, SSC), Dr. Sandeep Harit, Dr. Geeta Arora, Dr. Tilak Thakur and Mr. Naveen Kumar.
The session was led by Komila Parthi, an Associate Professor of Psychology and experienced mental health professional. Addressing the students, she emphasized the importance of understanding mental health as a continuum and highlighted the interconnection between emotional, psychological, and physical well-being.
Parthi discussed practical coping strategies such as cognitive reframing, visualization, and the role of family and peer support. The importance of meditation and emotional regulation was also highlighted. A key focus of the session was on setting personal boundaries and normalizing the act of saying “no” to maintain mental balance.
Dr. D. R. Prajapati encouraged students to prioritise their mental health and seek support whenever required. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, providing students with valuable insights and practical tools for managing stress and maintaining overall well-being.
