Power Sector employees, engineers and pensioners to launch protest dharnas from Jan 2

The Joint Action Committee of Power Sector Employees, Engineers and Pensioners  have announced the struggle programme with Zonal Dharnas from January 2 next year against the various steps taken in the last two months to crush the employees and their protests. The speakers of the Joint Action Committee, Avtar Singh Kaith, Amandeep Jehlvi and Jatinder Garg said that Zonal Dharna and Protest will be started from Amritsar (Jan 2), followed by Bhatinda (Jan 6), Patiala (Jan 9), Ludhiana Jan 9) and Jallandhar (Jan 20). A massive  dharna will be held outside the head office of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in the last week of January.

In case no corrective measure was taken by the Punjab Government then all the employees, officers and engineers of the power sector will go on collective leave. This is first time a  joint programme has been chalked out by the engineers, employees and pensioners to hold protest dharnas. It may be mentioned that the JAC is against the sale of lands of the Power Corporations, the obstacles being created in the process of setting up two 800 MW units at Ropar Thermal and the attempts to implement the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025.

PSEB Engineers Association, Council of Junior Engineers, Bijli Mulamzad Sangharshish Morcha, Pensioners Association, IT Officers Association, HR Officers Association, Accounts Association etc. have jointly decided to fight a joint fight on all the above three issues.

They said that  it is the duty of not only the employees but also the common people to participate in this struggle and save the public power sector of Punjab in the public interest. He also said that as per the decision of the meeting of the United Kisan Morcha held on December 14, farmer organizations will also participate in this struggle. Finally, JAC has appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately save the public power sector in the larger public interest.
