Chandigarh, March 17
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab as it completed four years in office, saying that the past four years have fully exposed the so-called “Punjab Model” and now it is trying to create a false euphoria of development and investment in the last leg of its term.
Chugh said the idea of having a film city as announced by chief minister Bhagwant Mann goes well with his personality but Punjab has been looking for a new model. In turn it has been a model of hollow promises, misleading claims and expensive publicity. The AAP government, he said, is playing a filmy drama on Punjab. He said holding the Punjab Investors’ submit at a time when murders are happening every day, law and order situation has touched an all-time low, was just a cosmetic drama played by the Bhagwant Mann government.
Chugh said that AAP came to power in Punjab on the basis of tall promises made to the people, but the government has failed on every front. He said that the promises of creating 25 lakh jobs, eliminating drugs within four months, and guaranteeing MSP on every crop have all turned out to be empty assurances with no visible results on the ground. He said that instead of employment and opportunities, the youth of Punjab have been left with rising unemployment and growing frustration. According to Chugh, the government’s grand announcements have remained confined to speeches, advertisements and publicity campaigns.
Chugh further said that the AAP government had promised to establish 16 medical colleges, set up 16,000 mohalla clinics, and increase pensions for widows and senior citizens to Rs. 2,500, but even after four years these promises remain largely unfulfilled. He alleged that under the AAP government the law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated sharply, with increasing incidents related to drugs, gangster activities and extortion creating a deep sense of insecurity among the people.
Chugh said that the Punjab government today appears to be working not for the interests of the state but for the political ambitions of Arvind Kejriwal. He added that Punjab’s resources are being diverted for political propaganda and image-building rather than being used for the development and welfare of the people of the state.
