New Delhi, December 9

Padma Shri Rajinder Gupta and Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, has been nominated to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development, a key panel overseeing policy and reforms across vital economic sectors.

Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Trident Group, Gupta, is widely recognized as a leading industrialist and philanthropist with decades of hands-on experience in manufacturing, global trade, and workforce development. His appointment is expected to bring valuable industry insight to the committee, particularly at a time when India’s textile sector faces challenges such as heightened tariff pressures from the United States and the need for stronger skilling frameworks for both skilled and unskilled workers.

Starting with modest resources in the mid-1980s, Gupta built Trident Group into one of the world’s leading integrated textile and paper conglomerates. The company today is a USD 2 billion-plus global enterprise, employing more than 17,500 people.

Beyond industry leadership, Gupta also contributes actively to initiatives in education, sports, and healthcare, strengthening his reputation as a multifaceted leader committed to national development.
