Jammu, January 22
Ten Army personnel lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir today. The mishap occurred when an Army truck skidded off the road at the 9,000-foot-high Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate route and plunged into a deep gorge. A joint rescue operation was swiftly launched by the Army and police. Four soldiers died on the spot, while six others succumbed to injuries later. Of the injured, one soldier is under observation at Bhaderwah Sub-District Hospital, while 10 have been airlifted to Udhampur Command Hospital for specialised treatment.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a social media post, Sinha said he was profoundly saddened by the loss of 10 brave soldiers in the unfortunate accident, adding that the nation will always honour their service and supreme sacrifice. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
