Peravoor (Keralam), April 6

Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today said it was becoming clear that there was a secret deal between the Left Democratic Front government and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Addressing a corner meeting here today, she said, during the last ten years, every system had collapsed in Keralam, with debt rising, unemployment growing and corruption reaching its peak.

Noting that there was an understanding between the LDF and the BJP, she said, “It is pretty obvious that there is a secret deal between the LDF and the BJP. We have seen a massive theft at Sabarimala Temple, but not a single word from the PM and no inquiry”. The Congress general secretary pointed out that all those who oppose the Prime Minister have the ED and other agencies after them, with multiple cases registered against them, but there has not been a single case against the Keralam Chief Minister.

Maintaining that arrogance had cropped up among those in power, Priyanka said, “The truth is, when in power for ten years, a certain kind of arrogance has grown among the Chief Minister and his ministers, as there is no sense of responsibility and accountability that every leader should have”. Suggesting that the Left Front had given up its ideology, she said, it seems as if ideology, accountability and responsibility had been compromised to stay in power. She also referred to attacks on minorities during the last ten years. She noted that nuns were beaten and ill-treated in Chhattisgarh. She said the issue of amendment to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act had also become a matter of concern.

Narrating her experiences of having worked with the sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, she disclosed that they had told her how they were raided and constantly harassed, and how the government was trying to obstruct their work. “And LDF has chosen to make a deal with people who harass these sisters”, she said. Praising the spirit of unity and harmony of people of Keralam, Priyanka told them, “Your social fabric is strong and you have lived together for centuries. You are an example for the rest of India”. She noted that the greatest asset of the people of Keralam is that they are diligent, intelligent, hardworking and extremely well- educated. “Wherever in the world I go, I bump into a Keralite, and I feel proud that he is an Indian”, she remarked.
