Once thwarted by the Shiromani Akali Dal, which forcefully protested and prevailed upon the Aam Aadmi Party government to withdraw its decision to acquire 25,000 acres of land across 30 villages adjoining Ludhiana, the AAP government has now set the wheels in motion to implement this alleged land grabbing scheme through the back door. Making these comments in a post on X, Shoiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal has condemned the AAP government-led decision of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to extend the municipal limits to an additional 110 villages. “The AAP government is taking this unprecedented step despite the fact that it is unable to develop and maintain the existing municipal limits. Besides causing hardship to people, who will be forced to pay hefty house tax as well as water and sewerage charges, the move will also take away ownership of common village lands from the panchayats”, his post on X mentioned.
Badal also said that it is clear that Aam Aadmi Party aims to usurp common village land worth hundreds of crores in these villages. This land will be handed over to AAP cronies, builders and industrial houses for an underhand fee in exchange for these allotments obtained by unfair means. “SAD makes it clear that, just as in the case of the land pooling scheme, we will not let this nefarious plan to snatch common village lands across 110 villages succeed at any cost. We will oppose it tooth and nail. Punjabis will defeat the anti-Punjabi, Delhi-based forces, come what may”, declared Badal.
