Chandigarh, March 23

The Sirsa MP, former Union minister and Congress General Secretary Kumari Selja, expressed deep concern over the current economic and diplomatic situation in the country, stating that India is facing challenges on multiple fronts. Selja said that the falling value of the rupee is not merely an economic indicator but reflects the central government’s policies, decision-making ability and its global credibility. She added that while the BJP government continues to claim economic strength, the reality is that inflation, unemployment and currency depreciation are severely impacting the common people.

Selja said the weakening rupee indicates that the government has failed to maintain balance and foresight in economic management. She said that the Congress party has always followed an economic approach based on balance, inclusive growth and public welfare. Strengthening small traders, farmers and the middle class is essential for building a strong economy, she added, warning that policies focused only on big industries weaken the economic foundation. On foreign policy, Selja said that recent global developments, including the international LPG crisis, have posed challenges to India’s diplomatic standing. She noted that India was earlier seen as a strong and balanced global leader, but currently, there appears to be a lack of clarity and stability in relations with several countries.

Selja said that Congress has always followed a foreign policy based on dialogue, balance and protection of national interests. India, she said, must establish itself as a reliable and stable global partner rather than relying solely on aggressive rhetoric. Selja concluded by stating that the country needs policies that ensure economic stability, social justice and strong international relations. She urged the government to take concrete and practical steps in the national interest to restore India’s economic strength and global credibility.
