The ‘Trident Open’ tee-off was marked by a brilliant shot from Rajya Sabha MP and prominent businessman Rajinder Gupta. The event is jointly organized by the Trident Group and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). The first round of the ‘Trident Open’ will be played on November 11 and the winner of the first edition will receive the prize on November 14. The prize money for this prestigious tournament is Rs 1 crore.

The tournament, organized in collaboration with title sponsor Trident Group, will feature a total of 126 golfers (123 professionals and 3 amateurs). Prominent Indian players include PGTI ranking leader Yuvraj Sandhu, Arjun Prasad, Shaurya Bhattacharya, Angad Cheema, Om Prakash Chauhan, and Manu Gandas. Yuvraj and Arjun Cheema are Chandigarh residents. They praised the efforts of Gupta. They said that they hadn’t played on their home course for a long time and thanked him for bringing them back home. It was due to his efforts that a major golf event returned to the city.

In addition to the two, several players from the Tricity, including Jairaj Singh Sandhu, Akshay Sharma, Abhijeet Singh Chadha, Brijesh Kumar, Ronil Kukar, and Umed Kumar (PGTI Next Gen Order of Merit Champion), will showcase their skills. Foreign players will include N. Thangarajan and K. Prabhakaran from Sri Lanka, Jamal Hussain and Mohammad Siddikur Rahman from Bangladesh, as well as players from the United States, Nepal, Italy, and Uganda.

21-year-old Shubham Jaglan will also be playing in this prestigious event organized by the Trident Group. This will mark his PGTI debut. He was previously India’s junior No. 1 and is currently playing college golf in the United States.

Gupta, who is also the recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, said, “We are delighted to announce the launch of the inaugural Trident Open Golf Championship, in collaboration with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), and under the esteemed leadership of Kapil Dev—a true sporting international icon and a symbol of national pride. This initiative stands as a testament to Trident’s unwavering commitment to the promotion of sports and the pursuit of excellence across all spheres of human endeavour. At Trident, we view golf as more than just a sport—it is a discipline that reflects precision, strategy, and connection, all of which deeply resonate with our core values of fostering meaningful and enduring partnerships. We are especially honoured to host this prestigious event at the Chandigarh Golf Club, affectionately known as the ‘Nursery of Indian Golf’, celebrated for its rich legacy of shaping champions who have brought glory to the nation.”

PGTI CEO Amandeep Johal said, “I, too, am from this city, and the Trident Group has given me the opportunity to return. Gupta has always loved the sport and strived to promote it. It is a matter of pride to announce the Trident Open in collaboration with the Trident Group. This partnership will enhance the level of Indian golf and expand opportunities for players. It is a privilege to have the first edition held at a prestigious venue like the Chandigarh Golf Club.”

Chandigarh Golf Club President Ravibir Singh said, “We are honored to host the first Trident Open. This tournament will provide golf enthusiasts in the Tricity with an opportunity to experience high-level play. We are confident that the partnership between Trident and golf will be a long-lasting one.” The Chandigarh Golf Club’s 7,202-yard, 18-hole, par-72 course is known for its tree-lined, narrow fairways and challenging layout. Top golfers from India and abroad will have a wonderful experience playing here, all vying for the glittering Trident Open trophy.
