Chandigarh, January 1
Senior IPS officer Ajay Singhal has taken over the charge of Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) today after the Haryana government appointed Singhal as the new DGP, effective immediately. An official order from the state’s home department confirmed that Singhal, a 1992-batch officer of the Haryana cadre, will serve a minimum tenure of two years. He is scheduled to retire in October 2028. The notification was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr. Sumita Misra.
Singhal’s appointment follows the retirement of OP Singh, who had been officiating as DGP. The selection was made from a panel of three senior IPS officers shortlisted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Alongside Singhal, the panel featured Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor (1990 batch) and Alok Mittal (1993 batch).
Taking charge at a crucial juncture, Singhal inherits a force that has recently strengthened its focus under OP Singh’s leadership—marked by initiatives in public accessibility, digital outreach, organised crime crackdowns, anti-drug operations, cyber fraud prevention, and reforms in grievance redressal and forensic systems.
