Sonipat/Chandigarh, February 14
The Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of State President Rao Narender Singh, organized a massive protest in Sonipat against the anti-people policies of the state government. On this occasion, Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda, former State President Dharampal Malik, and MP Satpal Brahmachari were specially present and addressed the gathering.
Addressing the crowd, Rao Narender Singh stated that the present government is troubling the public unnecessarily through arbitrary and authoritarian decisions. He said that the core spirit of the Indian Constitution—based on equality, justice, and public welfare—is being undermined by the government’s policies.
Singh termed the India–US trade deal as being against the country’s agricultural economy and farmers’ interests. He alleged that through this agreement, foreign companies are being given unrestricted access to Indian markets, which would adversely impact domestic farmers’ produce. This could endanger not only food security but also agricultural self-reliance. He questioned whether it is appropriate to weaken the achievements of India’s agricultural revolution in the name of globalization.
Reacting strongly to changes in the old-age pension scheme, he said that linking pension eligibility to the income of children is completely unjustified. The scheme was designed to provide dignity and security to the elderly, but the government’s decision appears to undermine that very objective.
On the issue of removal of names from ration cards, he alleged that eligible beneficiaries are being deprived of welfare schemes without valid reasons, which goes against the right to food security.
Criticizing recruitment processes in HPSC, he said that giving preference to candidates from outside the state while neglecting Haryana’s youth is an injustice to the talented youth of the state and raises serious questions about the government’s functioning.
MP Deepender Singh Hooda stated in his address that the present government has imposed such rules and regulations that common people are facing hardship in every sphere of life. He said that the India–US trade deal would severely damage the rural economy and directly impact the country’s GDP. He made it clear that Congress will continue its struggle to protect the rights of farmers, youth, and the elderly, and will raise its voice against oppressive policies.
Dharampal Malik stated that the public is distressed by the anti-people policies of the government, but attempts are being made to suppress those who raise their voices. He said that Congress has always worked in national and social interest and will continue to fight at every level to safeguard the rights of the people.
MP Satpal Brahmachari said that instead of holding serious discussions on public welfare issues in the Assembly or Parliament, the government is busy leveling baseless allegations against opposition leaders. He stated that farmers are already burdened with debt, and the new policies would further worsen their situation. He alleged that while the pockets of the common people are becoming empty, those in power are benefiting. Congress, he asserted, will continue its struggle against injustice faced by the people.
