Chandigarh, November 21
The Congress will hold a massive rally in Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on December 14 to protest against the vote-chori in the country. This will be preceded by submission of five crore signed forms against vote-chori from across the country to the President of India the same day.
Addressing a press conference at the Punjab Congress Bhawan here today, party general secretary in charge of Punjab and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that like elsewhere in the country, Punjab had seen massive response against the BJP’s blatant attempts of vote theft. He said, while the party has collected five crore signatures from across the country, about 27 lakh signatures were collected from Punjab.
Earlier, Baghel held a meeting of the newly appointed District Congress Committee presidents. He said, among other things, the new DCC presidents were asked to mobilise support for the December 14 rally being held in Delhi against the vote theft. He said the appointments of the remaining DCC presidents will also be made very soon.
Replying to a question on the Tarn Taran by-election results, the Congress general secretary said, the performance of the party was being reviewed and all the necessary corrective measures will be taken. At the same time, he suggested that the ruling party mostly wins the by-elections. Despite that, he added, the Congress also won a by-election in Barnala.
On the Bihar results, Baghel said that the Election Commission of India had wholeheartedly supported the BJP there pointing out how 65 lakh votes were deleted and fresh votes added to the advantage of the BJP.
Baghel was accompanied by the AICC Secretary Suraj Singh Thakur, PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawahas strongly criticised the Punjab Government, saying that it has even forgotten its primary constitutional duty—ensuring the safety and security of the people. “The increasing incidents of broad-daylight killings have reminded people of the dark days of terrorism, they added. They urged the public to support the Congress for a brighter and secure future for Punjab”, he asserted.
