Panchkula, December 22
On the crucial issue of the G RAM G Bill, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma has accused the Congress of attempting to politicise the issue through appeasement politics, calling it a matter of concern. Speaking on the sidelines olf the Swadeshi Mahotsav 2025 being held in Panchkula, Sharma said that under the MNREGA scheme, the name has been changed to “G Ram G” and the number of working days has been increased to 125. “Mahatma Gandhi was also a follower of Lord Shri Ram and would not have had any objection to this. No one should have any objection to the name of Lord Shri Ram, as in Haryana people across all castes, communities, and religions greet each other by saying “Ram Ram.” He added that the people of the country are continuously responding to the Congress, but they are unwilling to understand it.
Commenting on the incident involving opposition legislators and marshals during the Assembly session, Sharma termed it unfortunate and said such incidents have no place in a parliamentary democracy. He emphasised that India has the largest youth population and questioned what kind of example elected representatives are setting for the younger generation. He said those making irresponsible statements will face action as per the law, and all necessary procedures will be followed to ensure accountability. “While everyone has rights in a democracy, maintaining its dignity is equally important”, he added.
On the issue of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, Sharma said the incident was extremely unfortunate and expressed his condolences to the affected families. He stated that if such incidents occur, India must come together as one, irrespective of party lines, and strongly condemn them. Regarding the Swadeshi Mahotsav, he said that this Utsav plays a crucial role on the path to a developed India. “It is not merely an event, but a movement and a significant effort that will serve as a foundation stone in making India a developed nation by 2047”, he added.
Sharma also said the Mahotsav reflects a sincere attempt to translate the Prime Minister’s call for Swadeshi into action on the ground. Indigenous products made by small entrepreneurs are being actively encouraged, and today India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy. Such programmes, he added, should continue, as they provide encouragement to sections of society that often remain deprived.
