Chandigarh, January 27
An important meeting between the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Punjab was held on Tuesday in Chandigarh to discuss the SYL issue between the two states. The matter was discussed point by point in detail. Haryana’s Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Choudhry and Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal was also present in the meeting.
After the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann briefed the media through a joint press conference. Saini said this is the sacred land of the Gurus, and their teachings continue to be invaluable even today, serving as a guiding light for society and inspiring harmony, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue. He stated that the meeting was held in a very positive and cordial atmosphere. When discussions take place in a constructive environment, the outcomes are also meaningful.
The Chief Minister informed that, with mutual consent, both states have decided to hold meetings at the level of irrigation department officers for further detailed discussions on issues related to the SYL, so that practical and lasting solutions can be worked out. Saini added that meetings are being held continuously in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court, and today’s meeting was also organized in that spirit. Earlier as well, a meeting had been held with the mediation of Union Minister for Water Resources C.R. Patil.
During the press conference, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that today’s meeting was held in a very positive atmosphere and it was agreed that officers of both states would first meet to discuss the issue.
During the meeting, Chief Principal Secretary to the Haryana Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Anurag Agarwal and other senior officers of both states were present. In addition, the Advocate Generals of both states were also present.
