Joint struggle by farmers, laborers, electricity employees against privatization

Farmers, laborers and electricity employees will struggle together against electricity privatization and Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025, said Shailender Dubey Chairman All India Power Engineers Federation. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Darshanpal Singh, Mohan Sharma, and  Vidya Sagar Giri. It was attended by senior leaders of the NCCOEEE, Central Trade Unions and the SKM.

National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE), the Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions, and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) held at Delhi Took serious note of the ongoing attacks being unleashed on the working people and the peasantry of our country. The discussion focused on the privatisation of electricity, prepaid smart metering, and the Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The leaders expressed serious concern over the adamant attempts of the Uttar Pradesh Government to privatize two Discoms.

They demanded withdrawal of the Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, withdrawal of the proposed amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability of Nuclear Damage Act, stoppage of the installation of prepaid smart meters, withdrawal of all existing privatisation or franchisee models in generation, transmission, and distribution, cessation of privatisation attempts of two Discoms in Uttar Pradesh. It has been decided that thousands of electricity workers from different provinces from across the country will march to Lucknow in support of the collective Jail Bharo movement of UP electricity personnel on the tender of privatization and will launch the wide Satyagraha movement in Lucknow.

They also demanded retention of cross-subsidy and universal service obligation; protection of the right to electricity for farmers and all other sections of consumers, ensuring concrete steps to reduce electricity tariffs across the country.

It was  decided to organise demonstrations across the country if the amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability of Nuclear Damage Act are placed before Parliament. Against the privatisation of electricity and the Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, a joint campaign, along with massive conventions and rallies, will be organised across the country in  January and February 2026.The electricity employees and engineers, under the banner of the NCCOEEE, will march to Delhi on March 18, 2026 with participation of various organisations  in support and solidarity.
