Major success for Haryana police through advanced fingerprint technology: Two critical cases solved using NAFIS

Panchkula, November 13

The State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB), Haryana, has achieved significant success in solving two important criminal cases during the months of September and October 2025 by effectively using fingerprint science and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). This achievement reflects a major step in Haryana Police’s technology-driven investigation system and modern policing.
According to an official release issued here today by the Haryana Police, State Crime Record Bureau played a decisive role in solving a case registered at Sadar Police Station, Rohtak. Fingerprint experts carefully developed chance prints (fingerprint samples) obtained from pieces of a broken liquor bottle found at the scene of the incident.

On 15 June, Dayanand, son of Prahlad, submitted an application at Sadar Police Station, Rohtak, stating that his son Satish—who was the only brother of his four sisters—did not return home the previous night. Dayanand, along with his nephew, began searching for him and found Satish lying unconscious in the government hospital of the village. He was immediately taken to PGI Rohtak, where the doctors declared him dead.

Upon receiving the application at the police station, the investigating officer and the fingerprint lifting team reached the spot. During a detailed inspection by the fingerprint lifter, pieces of a broken liquor bottle were found. Considering the possibility of finding chance prints on these pieces, the fingerprint lifter developed chance prints using suitable powder. The obtained chance prints were expertly photographed and uploaded on NAFIS.

After in-depth and comparative analysis of all results received from NAFIS, the fingerprint expert matched the prints with a search slip (Naresh, son of Rajroop), a person with a prior criminal record. After the confirmation of this technical evidence, the accused was traced and the concerned Station House Officer was informed.

DGP O.P. Singh has prioritized the use of technology, while also emphasizing the human aspect of policing. Under his direction, campaigns such as ‘Operation Trackdown’ have proven extremely effective in the rapid arrest of criminals. These efforts have not only strengthened law and order but have also enhanced public trust and the sense of security among citizens.
