A one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled “Critical Care Nephrology – Early Diagnosis and Advanced Renal Support” was conducted on 7th March at the DMC&H Dumra Auditorium by Hero DMC Heart Institute, a unit of Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana. The event was organized under the leadership of Organizing Secretary Dr Vivek Gupta.
The CME was inaugurated by Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society, Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society, Dr G S Wander, Principal, DMC&H, Dr Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist cum Coordinator, HDHI, Dr Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Dr Sarju Ralhan, Chief Cardiac Surgeon, HDHI, and others. Dr Bishav said in his welcome address not only the treatment but prevention of the disease is equally important.
The highlight of the CME was the presence of internationally renowned nephrologist Dr Ravindra L Mehta San Diego USA, who served as the key faculty and main attraction of the program. Dr Mehta with extensive experience in advanced management of critical patients requiring advanced renal support shared his experience and insights on early recognition of acute kidney injury and the evolving role of advanced renal support therapies in the intensive care unit.
The CME witnessed enthusiastic participation from clinicians across multiple specialties including critical care, Anaesthesia, internal medicine, respiratory medicine and other acute care specialties. Experts and delegates from various parts of the country attended the program, making it a rich academic platform for knowledge exchange and discussion of challenging clinical scenarios.
Dr Vivek Gupta, Cardiac Anaesthetist and critical care specialist, spoke as organizing secretary of the event that these activities help to update the recent advances in the field and are excellent forum for sharing the experiences. Moreover hands on session help the young and trainee doctors and enhance their learning. He also emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and timely renal support in improving outcomes in critically ill patients.
The CME featured expert lectures, case-based discussions, and interactive sessions addressing early diagnosis of acute kidney injury, challenges in critical care nephrology, advanced renal replacement therapies including CRRT and SLED, and practical management strategies in the ICU. The CME concluded with active discussions and a commitment from participants to integrate the latest evidence-based practices into clinical care.
