PAU Horti-College Hosts Expert Session on ‘Smart Farming’ to Empower Students with ‘AI & Digital Tools’

The College of Horticulture and Forestry, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized an expert session on “Smart Farming, Machine Learning, and Smart Marketing,” providing students with insights into emerging technologies and career opportunities in horticulture. Under the leadership of Dr Rishi Indra Singh Gill, Dean of the College, the event was conducted to bridge the gap between traditional education and the evolving agri-tech industry.

Dr Gill emphasized the importance of integrating modern technologies like AI and machine learning into horticultural education. He highlighted that such sessions enriched students’ understanding and equipped them with practical skills to thrive in the rapidly changing agricultural landscape.

Dr Hira Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Vegetable Science, welcomed the experts and stressed the importance of exposing students to cutting-edge technologies. He noted that these sessions prepared students for careers in smart farming, agri-business, and AI-driven ecosystems, contributing to the growth of the horticulture sector.

Dr Malwinder Singh, a renowned AI expert in agriculture, delivered an engaging lecture on “AI for Horticulture and Career Opportunities.” His session explored the revolutionary role of AI in modern farming, focusing on its applications in improving productivity, optimizing resource use, and enabling data-driven decision-making. Dr Singh also discussed a vast array of career opportunities in agri-tech, research, and innovation-driven roles both within India and internationally, offering students invaluable guidance on future career prospects in these emerging fields.

Dr Supreet Kaur, an expert in AI and Machine Learning applications in agriculture, delivered a session on the “Integration of AI and Machine Learning in Horticulture.” Dr Kaur explained core concepts of AI and ML, showcasing their real-world applications in crop management, disease prediction, and precision horticulture. She also discussed the future potential of these technologies to drive innovation and efficiency within the horticultural industry.

Komal Chopra Lekhi, Founder of Aadvi Business Structures LLP, provided a comprehensive session on “AI-Driven Digital Marketing and E-commerce for Horticulture.” She highlighted how AI tools could empower horticulture students to create their own brands, market farm products digitally, and support existing businesses through innovative e-commerce and digital marketing strategies. Lekhi also explored career opportunities within digital branding, AI-driven marketing services, and e-commerce in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, equipping students with the knowledge necessary to succeed in these rapidly growing fields.

Final year students actively participated in insightful discussions on innovation and technology in horticulture. All participants received digital certificates from Aadvi Business Structures LLP. The event successfully aligned with PAU’s goal of equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in modern horticulture, emphasizing the role of technology in shaping the future of the industry.
