“Clinical photography is not merely documentation; it is a powerful bridge between medical science and society, enabling awareness, education, and empathy,” said Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh, while addressing as Chief Guest to the participants at the 4th Photography Workshop organized by the Department of Clinical Photography, PGIMER, today.
Highlighting the growing relevance of visual communication in healthcare, Prof. Lal emphasized that clinical photography and medical videography play a critical role in patient education, public health awareness, research dissemination, and myth-busting related to diseases. He commended the department for consistently setting benchmarks in medical visual communication through innovation, creativity, and ethical sensitivity.
The workshop focused on the theme of Health Awareness and Patient Education, underlining how accurate, compassionate and evidence-based visuals can significantly enhance understanding of diseases and counter widespread misconceptions. A key highlight was a technical session conducted in collaboration with Canon, which showcased advanced camera technologies, imaging techniques, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in medical and clinical imaging.
A specially curated Health Awareness Videography Masterclass sensitized participants to the responsibility of healthcare visual storytellers in creating content that is scientifically accurate, culturally sensitive, and impactful. The session reinforced how well-crafted visuals can empower patients, improve compliance, and strengthen public trust in healthcare systems.
The Department of Clinical Photography, PGIMER, under the leadership of Prof. Parmjeet Singh, Head of the Department, has earned national and international recognition for producing award-winning healthcare awareness films. Notably, films created by students of the department have received nominations and awards at prestigious national science film festivals, reflecting the department’s strong academic, technical, and creative excellence.
The workshop featured an expert interaction with Dr. Rajeev Kumar, National Film Award–winning director, who shared valuable insights into visual storytelling for healthcare communication, stressing the importance of narrative clarity, ethical representation, and emotional resonance in medical films.
Brij Lal, Senior Course Coordinator, B.Sc. Medical Animation and Audio Visual Communication, along with Dr Abhijeet Singh, Senior Medical Photographer, highlighted the department’s multidisciplinary approach in training students to become skilled professionals capable of translating complex medical information into accessible visual narratives.
The workshop reaffirmed PGIMER’s commitment to advancing health communication, patient awareness, and evidence-based visual education, positioning clinical photography as an indispensable tool in modern healthcare delivery and public health advocacy.
