Chandigarh, December 17
The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, is conducting the “Your Money – Your Right” campaign from 1 October to 31 December 2025. Awareness camps are being held across the country following the instructions of the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India. These camps are coordinated by the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), with support from Lead District Managers and all financial institutions.
Parmesh Kumar, General Manager, Punjab National Bank and Convenor, SLBC Punjab, informed that in Punjab, deposits amounting to approximately Rs 3,197 crore in 83.32 lakh bank accounts have already been transferred to the Reserve Bank of India due to non-claim by depositors within the prescribed time. With the objective of identifying the rightful owners and refunding these amounts, large-scale camps have so far been organized in 21 districts of Punjab. In the next phase of the campaign, mega camps will be held on December 19 in Barnala and Mansa, in which senior officials from banks, insurance, pension and mutual fund departments will participate.
Ramkishore Meena, Deputy General Manager, SLBC Punjab, stated that if there is no transaction in a bank account for the stipulated period, the account becomes inactive, and after 10 years, the balance is transferred to the Reserve Bank of India. He further informed that Rs 35.48 crore in 1,23,868 accounts in Barnala and Rs 37.40 crore in 1,61,159 accounts in Mansa are currently lying unclaimed.
Meena also added that amounts invested in mutual funds and insurance must be claimed on maturity. Detailed information on claiming old unclaimed deposits, mutual fund investments and insurance proceeds will be provided during these camps. Such awareness camps are being organized across the country to ensure that unclaimed amounts are returned to their rightful owners, nominees or legal heirs.
