Chandigarh, March 11

Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa strongly condemn the recent remarks made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann during his address on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which have deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the people of Punjab.

“It is extremely unfortunate that such derogatory words were spoken from a public platform, especially on a day meant to celebrate the dignity, strength and contribution of women in our society”, he said, while adding that the Chief Minister had an opportunity to inspire young minds and promote the ideals of respect, equality, and empowerment while addressing students at a college event. Instead, his comments have caused widespread disappointment and anger among the people.

“Punjab is a land known for its rich cultural and religious heritage, where mutual respect and harmony have always been the guiding principles of our society. Any statement that undermines or disrespects religious beliefs is unacceptable and goes against the very spirit of Punjab”, asserted Randhawa.

The MP has urged the Chief Minister to immediately clarify his statement and tender an unconditional apology to the people of Punjab whose sentiments have been hurt. “Public representatives must exercise responsibility and sensitivity while addressing citizens, especially the youth”, he said.
