Sunil Jakhar Condemns Filing of Cases for Questioning the Government

Listen to this article

Chandigarh, January 1

The filing of police cases against some journalists and social media influencers by the police, allegedly out of anger for questioning the government, has been strongly condemned by Bharatiya Janata Party State President Sunil Jakhar.

In a message posted on social media platform X in this regard, Jakhar wrote, “Bhagwant Mann ji, you yourself used to tell people to question their leaders. Now, when some journalists and social media influencers raised questions regarding your helicopter, you got cases registered against them. Is this democracy? Chief Minister ji, do not turn democracy into a police state.”

In a press statement issued in this connection, Sunil Jakhar said that by getting cases registered against journalists and social media influencers in Ludhiana, the Mann government is snatching away the people’s right to question the government. He said this is against democracy and also a violation of the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution. If a citizen asks who used a government helicopter, how does that become a crime?

The state BJP president said that through criticism, a government can improve its shortcomings, but this government does not even like to hear criticism. He added that such an arrogant attitude of the government is not in keeping with Punjab’s tradition, and the people of Punjab have already made up their mind to oust such an arrogant government in 2027.
