World Kidney Day Observed at DMC&H

Ludhiana, March 13

The Department of Nephrology at DMCH observed World Kidney Day at LT-1, Dumra Auditorium, DMC&H. The theme for this year’s World Kidney Day was “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.” The programme aimed to spread awareness about kidney health, prevention of kidney diseases, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

The event was graced by Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, as the Chief Guest along with Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society, Dr Sandeep Sharma, Medical Spudt.; Dr Ashima Taneja, Additional Medical Superintendent and Dr Vikas Makkar, Professor & Head of Nephrology & other faculty members from Department of Nephrology and Urology.

A poster-making competition on kidney health awareness was also organized by the DMC&H College of Nursing, DMC&H to encourage students to spread awareness through creative expression. The winners of the competition were awarded prizes during the event.

During the programme, a special recognition was given to kidney transplant recipients who have completed more than 10 years after their transplant, as well as to patients who have been on dialysis for more than eight years.  Their courage and resilience were acknowledged, and their inspiring journeys were celebrated to motivate and encourage others.

Speaking on the occasion, Bipin Gupta said, “Kidney diseases are increasing rapidly, and awareness about prevention and early diagnosis is the need of the hour. In his message, Dr G. S. Wander, Principal DMC&H highlighted the increasing burden of kidney diseases and emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, healthy lifestyle practices, and timely medical consultation

Dr Vikas Makkar highlighted the importance of preventive care and said, adopting a healthy lifestyle, staying hydrated, controlling blood pressure and diabetes, and undergoing regular health check-ups can significantly reduce the risk of kidney diseases.
