Ludhiana, May 13

SCD Government College, Ludhiana, has taken a historic step toward modern and inclusive education by inaugurating a state-of-the-art e-library. The facility was formally inaugurated today. The occasion was graced by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu, Vice Principal Dr. Poonam Mahajan, Librarian Bharpur Singh, faculty members, and a large number of students.

The newly established e-library will provide students with internet access along with a wide range of academic journals, e-books, research papers, and digital resources. Equipped with modern computer systems and high-speed internet connectivity, the e-library will serve as a comprehensive digital learning center where students can access global academic resources and make their study and research work more effective.

The college administration expressed confidence that such advanced digital facilities would encourage greater interest in research among both students and faculty members. In today’s era of Artificial Intelligence, the e-library is expected to play a significant role in promoting innovation, digital learning, and research culture.

In a remarkable achievement, SCD Government College has become the first government college in Punjab to introduce a special KIBO Device facility for visually impaired students. This advanced technology is capable of converting the contents of any book into regional languages as well as English and other languages, making educational material accessible to differently-abled students. In addition, a dedicated cell for specially-abled students has also been established on the college campus.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gursharn Jit Singh Sandhu stated that the college has recently extended the library timings keeping in mind the needs of students attending evening classes. The library will now remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., providing students with 12 hours of study facilities every day. He also mentioned that former students of the college are benefiting from the library services for their future growth and preparation. College Librarian Bharpur Singh informed that, as part of future plans, the college will soon introduce printing facilities for students at nominal charges, making study material more accessible and convenient.
