Ludhiana, January 31

The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertaking (CICU) has expressed deep satisfaction and gratitude on the commencement and inauguration of Halwara Airport, marking the successful culmination of sustained efforts made by CICU over the last more than 10 years to make this long-pending project a reality.

CICU expresses its sincere gratitude to the Government of India and the Government of Punjab for finally considering this long-pending demand and taking concrete steps to make the airport operational. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, CICU, stated, “CICU has been strongly advocating for the operationalization of Halwara Airport for over a decade, as it has always been a critical requirement for Ludhiana and the surrounding industrial clusters. We are thankful to both the State and Central Governments for acknowledging our request and making this important infrastructure project a reality. This airport will significantly enhance business mobility, boost exports, and strengthen Punjab’s position on the national and global trade map.”

The opening of Halwara Airport is of vital importance for the state of Punjab, especially for Ludhiana and nearby districts, which contribute substantially to manufacturing and exports. Improved regional air connectivity will provide direct access to major cities across the country, ensuring faster movement of business travelers and goods.

Honey Sethi, General Secretary, CICU, added “The operationalization of Halwara Airport will act as a growth engine for the region. It will attract new investments, promote entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities for local youth, and make travel more convenient for NRIs visiting Punjab. This development will have a long-term positive impact on trade, industry, and overall economic growth.”

CICU believes that Halwara Airport will emerge as a key infrastructure asset, driving industrial expansion, export growth, and enhanced connectivity, and reiterates its commitment to working closely with the government and stakeholders for the sustainable development of Punjab.
