Chandigarh, April 27
Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal over his announcement that he would not appear before the High Court in connection with a CBI appeal in the liquor scam case, asking whether he now considers himself above the law.
In a message shared on social media, Jakhar said: “Arvind Kejriwal ji, you have announced that you will not appear in the High Court in the matter of the appeal filed by the CBI against you in the liquor scam case. Is this your fear or arrogance? Have you now placed yourself above the courts? Do you no longer believe in the Constitution of this country? Remember, the CBI has filed this appeal in accordance with the law. And yes, by the same logic you have set for yourself, will your Punjab AAP government not challenge the High Court’s order directing payment of full DA and all pending dues to government employees? You often speak of ‘Satyamev Jayate’. If you are truthful, then what is there to fear? The law is doing its job. It would be better not to play the victim but to face the truth.”
Jakhar further alleged that the AAP has always maintained a double standard. He said that courts have delivered judgments earlier as well, and the High Court will decide the case strictly as per law. He added that under Indian legal provisions, both governments and affected parties routinely approach higher courts against lower court decisions, and such “drama” does not suit the AAP supremo.
The BJP leader also questioned that if Kejriwal’s argument is accepted—that a lower court’s decision should be treated as final—then why is the Punjab government preparing to appeal against the High Court’s ruling in the DA case of employees.
Jakhar concluded by saying that Kejriwal tends to give a political color to every issue, and he is attempting the same in this case as well, but people are now fed up with such “dramas.”
