Haridwar, May 20
Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Major General (Retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, was given a final farewell with full state honors at Khadkhadi cremation ground in Haridwar. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were present on the occasion.
A sea of people joined his funeral procession, with citizens from all walks of life paying tearful tributes. During the cremation, Army and police personnel presented a Guard of Honor in his memory. His son, Manish Khanduri, performed the last rites.
On the occasion, Dhami said that the demise of Khanduri is an irreparable loss for the state and the nation. He highlighted Khanduri’s exemplary service in the Army, the Union Government, and as Chief Minister, marked by transparency and discipline. He added that Khanduri will always remain a source of inspiration, and his absence will be felt like that of a guiding elder.
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the life of General Khanduri was an example of simplicity, discipline, and honesty. As Chief Minister, Union Minister, and Army officer, he fulfilled every responsibility with utmost dedication. His contributions will be remembered not only in Uttarakhand but across the country. His efforts to advance good governance and ideas like the Lokpal remain inspirational.
Among those present were former Maharashtra Governor and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former Chief Ministers Vijay Bahuguna, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Tirath Singh Rawat, Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, BJP General Secretary (Organization) Ajay Kumar, MPs Anil Baluni and Ajay Bhatt, Cabinet Ministers Subodh Uniyal, Satpal Maharaj, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Ganesh Joshi, Saurabh Bahuguna, Madan Kaushik, Pradeep Batra, Khajan Das, along with several MLAs and saints.
