Chandigarh, June 7
The Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, successfully organized “Fit India Sundays on Cycle” at Sports Complex, Sector-42, Chandigarh, as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 700 students and sportspersons representing various sports disciplines from across the city, reflecting Chandigarh’s growing commitment towards fitness, healthy living and environmental sustainability.
The programme commenced with all participants taking the Fit India Pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards maintaining physical fitness, adopting a healthy lifestyle and inspiring others to make fitness an integral part of their daily lives. The cycle rally was formally flagged off by Dr. Mahender Singh, Joint Director Sports, Chandigarh Administration, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he emphasized the importance of regular physical activity and encouraged citizens, particularly the youth, to adopt cycling as a healthy, economical and environment-friendly habit.
A special highlight of the event was the enthusiastic participation of a large group of intellectually disabled children, whose determination, energy and active involvement reflected the true spirit of inclusivity promoted through the Fit India Movement. Their participation inspired all present and reinforced the message that fitness and sports are for everyone, irrespective of ability.
The 5-kilometre cycle rally commenced from Sports Complex, Sector-42, Chandigarh and proceeded via Sector 36-37/41-42 Roundabout, Furniture Market Roundabout, 43 Bus Stand Chowk and Attawa Chowk, before concluding back at the Sports Complex. Participants enthusiastically cycled through the designated route carrying the message of “Pedal for Health, Pedal for Planet”, promoting fitness, environmental conservation and community well-being.
The Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration ensured comprehensive arrangements for the smooth and safe conduct of the event. Necessary facilities including medical support through an ambulance, refreshments for participants, hydration arrangements, route management and road safety measures were put in place. The event was efficiently coordinated and managed by the officials and staff of the Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, ensuring the safety, comfort and well-being of all participants throughout the rally.
The event was organized with the objective of promoting cycling as an effective means of improving physical fitness, reducing pollution and fostering a culture of active living among citizens. The overwhelming response from participants, including young sportspersons and intellectually disabled children, made the programme a grand success and further strengthened the vision of building a healthier, fitter and more inclusive society.
