Patiala, November 6

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today received a major boost with senior Akali leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra joining the the party along with his son and former legislator Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra and SGPC member Jarnail Singh Kartarpur and the entire Punar Surjit Dal leadership of Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib in the presence of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Earlier the former MP and his son and a large section of leaders of the Punar Surjit Dal had resigned from all posts in the Dal and expressed their desire for Akali unity. Welcoming the Chandumajra family into the SAD, Sukhbir Badal announced Harinderpal Chandumajra’s nomination as the partys halka incharge from Sanaur. He also urged all Akali leaders who had left the SAD on one pretext or another to rejoin their mother party in the interest of Punjab and the Panth.

Badal also announced that in the coming days more such leaders who had left the SAD would be welcomed back into the party fold even as he asserted that the “New Chulha Dal” had become redundant and that the SAD would now win all the assembly seats in Patiala district.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said he was influenced by the SAD Presidents appeal for Panthic unity against the anti- Punjab forces including the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party. He also appealed to all Akali leaders who had left their mother party to come back in the party fold. Prof Chandumajra also clarified that the December 2, 2024 ‘hukamnama’ of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had mandated that all Akali factions should unite. “By passing an edict to bake flour in one ‘chulha’, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs had conveyed its sentiment for the need of panthic unity”, he asserted.

Harinderpal Chandumajra also assured the SAD president that he would strive to further strengthen the SAD in Sanaur. Other leaders present on the occasion included Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Tejinder Singh Middukhera, Arvind Khanna, Surjit Singh Garhi, Makhan Singh Lalka, Jagmit Singh Hariau,Amit Singh Rathi and Tejinder Singh Sandhu.
